The Train Has Arrived. Willenhall Is Open for Business

After 61 years without a rail connection, Willenhall welcomed its first passengers today. Here’s why that matters and why West Midlands House has been ready for this moment since 1993.

Today, Thursday 19 March 2026, Willenhall got its train station back. For the first time since 1965 (over six decades) passengers can step off a train in the heart of this Black Country town. It is a significant moment.

But for those of us who have been here all along, who chose Willenhall as a base for business long before it was fashionable to do so, today feels less like a surprise and more like an arrival. A confirmation of something we always believed: that this town has everything it takes to be a serious business destination.

“Willenhall has the people, the energy, and now the connections. The question is no longer how to get here. It is what you will build when you do.”

– Jeni Sellick, West Midlands House

West Midlands House has been supporting SME’s and startups in Willenhall since 1993. Over three decades, through economic cycles, through the uncertainty of the pandemic, through the shifting landscape of flexible working, we have remained.

We believed that businesses founded here could grow here. We believed that the Black Country had a commercial identity worth nurturing, one built on graft, on practicality and on community. And we believed that the infrastructure would catch up with the ambition.

Today, it has.

What the Station Changes

The reopening of Willenhall station, part of a £185 million West Midlands investment in five new rail stations, is not just a transport story. It is an economic one.

Direct, hourly services now connect Willenhall to Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

For businesses based at West Midlands House, it means:

  • Clients can travel in from Birmingham or Wolverhampton without a second thought
  • Teams can expand their hiring radius across the wider region
  • Events at West Midlands House become genuinely accessible to a regional audience
  • The commute question – that perennial concern for any business choosing a location has been answered

“The five new rail stations complete a £185 million project reconnecting communities to the rail network for the first time in generations.”

A Place That Was Already Working

The businesses based at West Midlands House; sole traders, growing SME’s, established professional service firms have been doing serious work out of this postcode for years.

What we have always offered is more than a desk. We offer a professional environment, meeting rooms equipped for client-facing work, flexible day coworking for those who need a base without the overhead of a lease, and a calendar of events designed to connect businesses with the knowledge, relationships, and opportunities they need to grow.

The station does not change what West Midlands House is. It simply makes it easier for more people to experience it.

This Is the Right Moment to Come

We are actively looking for the right businesses to join a community that has been quietly thriving.

Whether you are a freelancer or consultant looking for a professional base a few days a week, a startup that needs its first proper address, a growing business that needs meeting rooms without the cost of a full-time office, or a company looking to establish a West Midlands presence – we want to hear from you.

The journey here just got easier. The opportunity has always been here.
