Flying the Flag for Black Country Day at West Midlands House
West Midlands HouseOn Monday 14th July, we proudly celebrated Black Country Day here at West Midlands House, joining the wider community in honouring the culture, heritage, and people that make the Black Country so special.
We marked the celebration displaying the iconic Black Country Flag at reception – a symbol that reflects the industrial strength and unity of our region. As a nod to traditional Black Country flavours, we also offered a basket of pork scratchings in reception for client’s and visitors to enjoy – a simple but well-loved local treat that sparked lots of smiles (and second helpings!).
A Building Steeped in Black Country History
Our Black Country pride runs deeper than just one day of celebration. West Midlands House itself is part of the region’s industrial story. Our building was once home to Tame Works, a historic lock factory operated by the renowned manufacturer Josiah Parkes & Sons – one of the most respected names in British lock-making.
The factory was a vital part of Willenhall’s rich locksmithing heritage, a town once known as the “Lock Capital of the World”. For generations, craftsmen and women worked right here producing high-quality locks that were shipped across the country and beyond. Today, while the building has been transformed into modern offices and professional meeting spaces, we’re often visited by people who fondly recall their time working here during its days as a lock factory. That enduring legacy of dedication, industry and innovation continues to shape the spirit of West Midlands House.
