Breakfast with the Mayor: Willenhall Businesses Shape the Future of the Black Country
13th January 2026
This morning, West Midlands House had the privilege of hosting an important conversation for our business community; Breakfast with the Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker.
Small business owners and start-ups from across Willenhall gathered for what turned out to be far more than a standard networking event. This was a genuine fireside chat, an open dialogue about the real challenges we face, the opportunities on our doorstep and how we can work together to drive meaningful growth in the Black Country.
Why Events Like This Matter
It’s easy to feel disconnected from decision-makers, especially when you’re running a small business and juggling a hundred priorities every day. But events like this remind us of something crucial: when we show up, engage, and share our perspectives, we put ourselves at the forefront of the minds of those who can help us make the difference we want in our communities.
Richard Parker didn’t come with a prepared speech or a corporate presentation. He came to listen, to answer honest questions, and to understand what businesses in Willenhall and the wider Black Country actually need to thrive.
A Mayor Dedicated to the Black Country
Throughout the conversation, one thing became abundantly clear, Richard Parker’s dedication to supporting businesses in the Black Country isn’t just rhetoric. He spoke passionately about the West Midlands Growth Plan and his vision for making our region the best place to start, run, and scale a business.
The questions from attendees were direct and thoughtful, covering everything from infrastructure and transport links to access to funding and skills development. And the responses were equally direct – no political spin, just practical discussion about what can be done and how we get there together.
Look Forward
The energy in the room this morning was inspiring. This is a business community that cares deeply about Willenhall’s future, that’s willing to engage constructively with leaders and that’s ready to be part of the solution.
At West Midlands House, we believe in creating these opportunities for connection and advocacy. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and ensuring your voices are heard at every level of government is part of our mission.
Thank you to everyone who attended, and to the Mayor, Richard Parker for his time and his commitment to our community.
