Proud to Represent the Black Country: Employee of the Year Finalist

We’re absolutely chuffed to share some incredibly special news – Our Centre Manager; Jeni Sellick has been named as a finalist for Employee of the Year at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2025.

“After 26 years of graft, supporting some truly bostin small and start-up businesses through my work at West Midlands House, being recognised in this way has left me quite emotional. This isn’t just about me though – it’s about representing the hard work, determination and exemplary work ethic that defines the Black Country and everyone who calls this region home.”

The Black Country Work Ethic

Anyone who knows the Black Country knows we’re made of stern stuff. We roll our sleeves up, we get stuck in, and we don’t give up. That’s the spirit I’ve carried throughout my career, and it’s the same spirit I see every day in the brilliant businesses I’ve had the privilege to support.

From start-ups taking their first nervous steps to established businesses pushing for growth, I’ve worked alongside entrepreneurs and business owners who embody everything that makes the Black Country special. Their resilience, their innovation, their sheer determination – that’s what drives me to give my best evert day.

Why Employee of the Year Matters

I entered the Employee of the Year category because I believe in recognising the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. The ones who show up day after day, who go the extra mile, who genuinely care about making a difference. That’s what the Black Country is built on – honest, dedicated, exceptional work.

Over more than two decades, I’ve poured my heart into supporting businesses across Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton through building business environments that hold them up. Every success story, every business that’s grown and thrived – those moments make every challenge worthwhile. This nomination is a recognition not just of my work, but of the collaborative spirit that makes the Black Country business community so strong.
