In brief, ensuring that the Centre is at it’s best, our services are being provided efficiently and developed in line with business requirements and making sure all of our clients and visitors are well taken care of.
Can you describe a typical day for you?
[laughs] No day for a Business Centre Manager is typical, my role is a very varied one. I can be showing potential new tenants around one minute and sorting out a leaky tap the next. There’s always a morning coffee with the team to discuss the day ahead though.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Besides all the fabulous people and the variation of my work, seeing our clients do well is very rewarding, we have been the first home for so many start up businesses over the years and I really love being a part of the journey. After all their success is our success.
How has the business landscape changed in your time at WMH?
Having been at West Midlands House since 1999! I have seen many changes, in-particular I’ve seen the popularity of flexible workspace increase tenfold. Inclusive rents and flexible agreement terms are what business want and creative industries are also looking for space options that offer something a little different to the traditional lease. The installation of our new co-working facility is an exciting next step which will further expand our membership and hopefully open our doors to even more business types.

Welcoming visitors at the front desk by greeting them and announcing their arrival to the relevant companies. Answering, dealing with and forwarding incoming phone calls. Receiving and sorting daily post. Documenting daily news and happenings upon our social media pages.
Can you describe a typical day?
A typical day at West Midlands House involves spending our mornings greeting our tenants and their clients. We prepare for the day ahead, and as the day goes on we receive post and deliveries which are distributed appropriately. Answering emails and phone calls as promptly as possible is our main focus, but there is always time to stop for a chat with our lovely tenants.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing people achieve their dreams. We love to see people who begin with nothing but an idea and a vision, yet end with an established, professional and successful business, with the help of our services. It may take some time, to progress from a virtual mailbox all the way to a dedicated serviced office suite, but day in day out we witness this growth and from our perspective it is just so fulfilling to see.
How has the business landscape changed in your time at WMH?
In my time at WMH I have seen an evolvement in many aspects, mostly with the rebranding. This has been crucial to progressing our business and helping it to compete with others. It has given us a fresh and more professional image and in my opinion it looks fantastic. Change has also been happening in the offices themselves with lots of renovation work going on and refurbishments bringing more businesses into the area. I am excited to see our newest projects progress, such as our co-working development.
