Sr. IT Advisory Project Manager (High-Risk Projects)

Location: Richmond, VA (Hybrid – 2 days/wk Onsite)

Employment Type: Long-term contract

Brooksource is seeking a Senior IT Project Advisor to support a major state-level initiative aimed at improving project governance and reducing systemic risk across local government operations. This role will support the build-out of a Project Management Center of Excellence (PM COE) and lead multiple high-risk, high-visibility IT projects from planning through execution.

Responsibilities :

• Manage full lifecycle of multiple high-risk IT projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget
• Lead the development of project management standards, training materials, and best practices
• Build out risk reporting dashboards and support project governance
• Mentor other project managers on high-risk project execution
• Collaborate with agency stakeholders, vendors, and internal teams to ensure successful delivery
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure alignment with broader goals

Skills & Experience :

• 7+ years of IT project management experience, with emphasis on high-risk or complex initiatives
• Strong understanding of project risk assessment and mitigation strategies
• Proficiency with project management tools like MS Project , Jira , SharePoint , or similar
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• PMP , PMI-RMP , or other relevant certifications preferred
• Previous experience working in or with government agencies is a plus
